At Autodesk's World Press Day event in San Francisco today, CEO Carl Bass detailed the company's future directions... think of it as Autodesk 3.0. At the core are the company's next generation 3D modeling tools: Inventor, Revit and Alias. And AutoCAD you may ask? Well that's so last century! Today, it's all about "digital prototyping" and "functional design" that allows "anybody" (ie not just PhDs) to visualise, simulate and analyse "in context" the real-world performance of concepts. "You are able to experience the design before it's real, before building a real prototype", stressed Bass. Also part of this 3.0 transformation is the convergence between the different disciplines (engineering, design, construction, real estate...) and the creation of
Autodesk Labs last August to involve the customer in the building of new products/features.
the idea a whole lot of assumption
