PLM, a bizarre creation that won't pass the test of time, says Autodesk CEO

Story posted on: February 15, 2007

At Autodesk's media summit, Carl Bass could not resist from ranting against PLM. Product Lifecycle Management solutions compete with Autodesk's simpler design process built around AutoCAD. Here's what Autodesk CEO had to say about it:
There are only 3 companies in the world that have a PLM problem: Dassault, PTC and UGS, all competitors
or,
PLM is an artifact, a marketing slogan, to satisfy a financial community at a time in which most of the companies that i mentioned don't have decent financial performance

but, it gets better,

I can count on a single hand the number of successful PLM implementations in the world
and finally,
When the majority of money is spent on consulting (90%) versus software sales (10%) there's one of 2 reasons: the technology is a failed solution, or the customers are trying to implement something that doesn't make sense
