Seagate wireless hard-drive lags Agere's flash memory BluOnyx

Story posted on: February 15, 2007

At Demo last month, Seagate showed off DAVE (Digital Audio Video Experience, sic!). The wireless device will be available this summer, between 150$ to 200$, and integrates Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, a USB port as well as an 10 GB 1" hard-drive. Battery life will range from 10 hours of continuous operation to 2 weeks in standby mode. Although Seagate plans to release next year a 40GB version, I feel this won't be enough to compete with flash memory based solutions like Agere's BluOnyx, that could provide within the same small credit card factor, an even lighter, more reliable, longer battery life, higher capacity and perhaps even cheaper (you can count on price falling flash memory) than Seagate's DAVE.
