[PMA Sneak Peak] PhotoChannel Networks unveils custom music service

Story posted on: March 07, 2007

Fairly unknown in the US, Canada-based PhotoChannel Networks (PNI) is actually one of the leader in digital photo ordering providing the back-end platform for large retailers like Kmart, CVS/pharmacy and Eckerd Drugs.
In the US, we probably have a 30% share of the market versus over 75% in Canada, says Michel Lacaille, a manager at PNI
At PMA, PNI is showing its digital music service, powered by PassAlong, and providing a “traditional” online download store with over 2 million songs, but also a custom CD production service.
The users select their music tracks online or at an in-store kiosk which are then sent to a physical store like CVS or Walmart Canada to be burned on a CD with its cover in only an hour. The average cost of a song is about 80 cents, going from 50 cents to a dollar
