[PMA Sneak Peak] Samsung plans Wi-Fi enabled still cameras

Story posted on: March 08, 2007

Samsung spokesperson Jason Ledder confirmed that inspite the Korean manufacturer lack of Wi-Fi enabled cameras yet, there are plans in place to bring yet un-announced Wi-Fi cameras to market to complement the copmany's 3G cameras.
The i70 and the i7 are currently available in the UK and have HSDPA built-in, which is sort of a Wi-Fi but goes through the integrated 3G cell phone chip. But we might see some Wi-Fi coming from Samsung at some point. But HSDPA is really a fantastic feature and transfers data even faster than Wi-Fi. Should 3G/HSDPA networks be up and running fully in the US, Samsung will bring these cameras to the market.
And just like Nikon, Ledder thinks that it's not about megapixels anymore,
It's more about the features that you can put in the cameras like intelligent LCD or face recognition. 5 to 6 megapixels is really all you need, because you can go all the way and print 10x20 photos. And there are not a lot of soccer moms that are doing that. Instead they are mostly doing 4x6s.
