[ad:tech] Wired.com drops Copyright bomb, adopts Creative Commons license for content: grab, modify, re-post...

Story posted on: April 25, 2007

At the digital marketing conference this morning, Wired Digital's general manager revealed that the site will adopt the Creative Commons license for its content in a couple weeks.
"Our readers will be able to take our content, modify it and post it back on their blogs for free, as long as you don't make money out of it. It just doesn't matter today that the content is copyrighted in a traditional sense or not", said Kourosh Karimkhany.

The caveat is that if your blog has ads, you won't be able to reprint Wired's content. The executive also mentioned Wired's experience in collaborative journalism where the magazine asked its readers to finish a story (through using a wiki) its reporter started ("it was a bit verbose") and on the importance of having a "conversation" with the audience versus printing a "static" article.

"One of our journalists refused to do the interview of blogger Jason Calacanis by email because that will not enable to have a real conversation and go off tangent."
And as for monetising the "conversation"? "Just slap an ad around it"... duhhh!
