[OnHollywood] Google and Viacom will settle lawsuit says Fenwick lawyer

Story posted on: May 02, 2007

Just after the panel on "Can copyright and DRM be Fair and Balanced" [i think not personally!], I chatted with Fenwick & West's copyright litigation group attorney about the Viacom vs Google/YouTube case. Laurence Pulgram predicted that both sides will settle with money potentially exchanging hands through a "licensing deal". This confirms my perceptions on how Hollywood is doing business: try/use, sue, settle and cash-in! Another thing I learned was that
"these Fair Use cases always settle before they get in front the judges, since the Sony Betamax case".
Now you know if you're dealing in a way or in another with the media moguls!
