[SCOOP] Intel confirms upcoming fanless notebooks

Story posted on: May 09, 2007

At the "Santa Rosa" (Intel's latest notebook plateform unveiled last March) press conference here in San Francisco, I had confirmation of upcoming fanless notebooks... and perhaps HP/Voodoo will not be alone in this (can't say the other OEMs just right now ;-).

"Yes, you know exactly which company are going to do it [Mooly reads UberPulse!]... because we are going to come out with Santa Rosa (CPU, chipset and southbridge) Ultra Low Voltage in a very very small factor code name Blue Dolphin less than half of the size of the current platform (same power enveloppe, same die but different package)... and some of the companies are going to do it fanless", said Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Platforms Group at Intel.
Intel targets Blue Dolphin at Ultra Mobile PCs (UMPC) or for those "sleek" notebooks Eden was mentioning in his presentation. The Blue Dolphin chips were shown for the first time at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing last month and should be in production by this summer, if not before!
