iPhone mania, but why?

Story posted on: June 29, 2007

We were this afternoon at the Apple store in Palo Alto, along with a couple hundred people, waiting in line to buy the iPhone. Surprisingly, this was much less than I expected. At least compared to game consoles launches for example. In Palo Alto, you would barely wait an hour if you start queuing at about 7pm, one hour after the official launch.

The first person in line in Palo Alto was a young boy named Patrick. He bought 2 iPhones! The next one is famed blogger Robert Scobble, Patrick's father ;-)

An hour after the rush, there was still a line of about 50-100 people but apparently plenty of iPhones left. Mid-day a delivery truck brought 5 pallets full of iPhones. My estimate is that the Palo Alto store has at least 1,000 iPhones in stock for the launch and certainly more coming tomorrow, Saturday. Although I'm still skeptical about the iPhone capabilities, even after living through this Applemania craze, Apple did a great job in building and getting these devices to the stores in time. Bravo for that!

Having said that, it's hard to believe that anyone would want to pay a stratospheric price for an iPhone, like some of the offers you can find now on eBay or Craigslist. If you think of doing that... don't.

Here at Uberpulse, will go and buy one for you at cost! You'll just have to pay for shipping. That's a deal!
