AMD unveils 3GHz Phenom desktop quad core (video)

Story posted on: July 26, 2007

Since early this morning I'm attending AMD's Analyst day at the company's headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA. So far I was surprised by Rick Bergman's (the graphics guy in the picture!) demo of a PC with a 3GHz Phenom desktop quad core, AMD's next generation chipset and Trifire, a 3 graphics card configuration with ATI's Crossfire.

Although the demo showed that the 3GHz quad-core actually exists, it does little to quelch worries of delays of the 3GHz quad-core server chip dubbed "Barcelona".

"The product is stable at 3GHz [...] If the desktop version ships in Q4, you can expect the server version to ship sometimes in the future", confirmed Henri Richard, AMD's chief marketing and sales.
