[ÜberReview] Ducati USB flash drive: beautiful but expensive and slow (video)
Story posted on: July 19, 2007
Despite the quite unique design, the Sandisk Extreme Ducati edition 4GB USB flash drive was a disappointment both performance and price-wise. Indeed at $125 you would expect more of this Ducati drive than the advertised 20 megabytes per second (MB/s) speed. By comparison, the 4GB Corsair Flash Voyager drive, with better performance (34MB/s read and 25MB/s write), sells for $70 at OZ direct and the 8GB version, with even better performance, sells for $115 on NewEgg.

In conclusion, I think this drive will mostly appeal to the Ducatista, the fans of Ducati, than the Geekista in search of the best price-performant USB drive!

To be fair... and balance (sic!), here's Sandisk response to our über-opinion:
The SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition USB Flash Drive is the fastest flash drive in our company's consumer product line. We are not claiming it is the fastest USB flash drive available anywhere. The Ducati USB drive is also much bigger and heavier than comparable drives but for me, that was not such an important factor, as I don't really "wear" my USB key around the neck!

Hrm... To be fair, you should have shown a comparison photo with the above mention drives. You mention the Corsair but show some teensy-weensy 1gb corn flake of a flash drive. The Corsair Voyager is no corn flake.
The speed thing is disappointing though. Although it\'s very sexy I would have been very disappointed to spring $90 today to get something that was not INDEED one of the fasted flash drives available. I\'ll wait to see if they bump it to a truly FAST 8gb or maybe until Porsche makes one that\'s better.
