[DEMOfall 07] Session 1 Top Picks: Digital Fountain's Splash and FixMyMovie by MotionDSP
Story posted on: September 25, 2007

Splash is Digital Fountain's upcoming content delivery network (CDN) that delivers TV quality video to PCs, TVs or mobiles, over the Internet. I was impressed by the video quality inspite of up to 20% packet losses and latency responsible for glitches and sound cuts. Splash will be available in January to companies wanting to distribute videos on the Web. However, it has strong competitors including Akamai, Limelight Networks or Move Networks. So we'll have to see if Digital Fountain can actually deliver in its CEO (Charlie Oppenheimer, pictured) promise.

The other company I liked was MotionDSP that showed FIxMyMovie. This new consumer Flash-based Web site takes poor quality videos taking from a cell phone for examples and automatically enhance it with increased resolution, noise reduction, corrects for colour and lighting errors. The edited video is then ready to be viewed and shared on FixMyMovie site, just like it would have been on YouTube for example. All this sounds cool as I don't always have my camera with me. Will try it with my Motorola RAZR and report back.
