Talkster Offers Free International Conference Calls: A Rebtel Me-Too with A Twist (video)

Story posted on: October 25, 2007

I really think Talkster is a Rebtel-me too with a twist. True it doesn't ask you to sign in or enter any personal information. Instead, you and your friend(s) will have to bare with a 10 seconds commercial before you could start talking. The good news is that now, consumers really have the choice for free and simple (no PC or software required) international calling: one that requires to sign-in (Rebtel), the other that don't but is ad supported (Talkster). Personally I prefer the former. And quality-wise? It's the same poor quality on a Talkster or a Rebtel free call.
"It's pretty much a copy of our service. However, Rebtel has no advertising and works from more countries. And if you want, you can pay and call the whole world very cheap as well", noted Rebtel CEO Hjalmar Winbladh.

Here's how both services work. Both, you and your friend(s) call the Internet phone service local number. The service then makes the connection between the two and then you can talk for free, forever. But Talkster has a slight advantage over Rebtel: you could be up to 5 friends on a call, whereas Rebtel limits you to one. Imagine. One on each continent!

In my view Rebtel offers more.
1. 10 minutes free direct calling (without having to hang up-call back) when you get your first number and then 5 more for each friend you add.
2. No ads to listen to when you make call.
3. Make smart calls (hang up-call back) to 39 countries compared to Talkster\'s 29
4. Make a direct call to the rest of the world. The rates are much lower than e.g. Skype Out
5. I think the quality of sound with Rebtel is much better.

...and note that you don\'t have to sign up with Rebtel to get going. Get a number straight up from the home page or send an SMS to +44 77 9780 0900 with your friends name and number, e.g. \'Benjamin +44 879 843 098\' to start calling

Talkster launched a week ago with a service that we designed to offer truly free calls to the largest amount of users, with no limits on who you are calling, what kind of phone you are using, or how many minutes you want to talk. From this start we are adding valuable offers for our callers from advertisers and brands they know and love. Free calling is great, but free calling with redeemable offers is an even better deal we think.

Getting a few free minutes and then converting you to pay, as some cheap VoIP service providers do, is frustrating for callers and is one of the reasons that we developed Talkster’s Free World Dialing service. Our promise is to keep this service free which means you don\'t have to think about who you are allowed to call for free, limited call times, giving payment information or registering - - Ever.

We are expanding the list of countries that we connect to on a weekly basis. Soon you will be able to call from any country in the world, not just a handful.

When it\'s free, why just talk to one friend? Make it a party and talk to 5 friends at once. With Talkster’s Free World Dialing group calls are free too. And Talkster Groups lets you set up conference calls in a way that PC to PC and VoIP services are not providing today. Remember, Talkster was the first company that let people place calls from their mobile phones to instant messenger services with voice like Yahoo, AOL, MSN and Google Talk – services without phone numbers. You can be assured there are many exciting developments in store for users of Talkster that will make staying in touch with friends – both near and far – easy, fun and free.
