MySpace Prepares New Face! (video)

Story posted on: February 27, 2008

Last night, I attended the International Press Club dinner hosted by MySpace at San Francisco French restaurant Frisson. Food was good and conversations were even better!

MySpace was of course well represented, with CEO Chris DeWolfe, VP of Strategy Steve Pearman, the head of Asian operations, Sung Lee and VP of Communications Dani Dudeck.

The who's who of the international media located in the Bay Area attended the dinner, like reporters from Germany (Stern, Financial Times Germany, Wirtschaftswoche), Japan (Nikkei, Nikkei Electronics, Toyokeizai, El Neos, Nikkei BP and TV Tokyo), France (Les Echos, Le Nouvel Obs, The French News Agency, l'Atelier USA), Finland, Turkey as well as Tom Foremski (ex-Financial Times and now at SiliconValleyWatcher) and our friend Eliane Fiolet of sister publication Ubergizmo.com.

Los Angeles-based MySpace recently opened an office in San Francisco and plans to hire about 200 people here, mostly engineers, in the next 12 months. Can you imagine, this Internet company has already more than 1,400 employees worldwide? Anyway, if you want to apply, send us an email and we'll forward it directly to Chris! You can also go on MySpace (they've hired a few people from within the social network), Monster or HotJobs.

MySpace plans a new, more user-friendly, less flashy user interface

International is big for MySpace especially since being acquired by Rupert Murdoch's media company, News Corporation. But the real scoop last night was that MySpace is preparing a new user interface that will make it easy for users from the "older generation" to set up a MySpace page. I actually mentioned to Chris that I found it a bit overwhelming to set up my MySpace page versus doing the same on Facebook or LinkedIn. But that should change, he promised.

With this new sleek UI expected in a couple months, MySpace is going head on with Facebook. Even doubling down, by finally opening it's platform and being OpenSocial compatible. More on my conversation with Chris later. But first, here's a video of the dinner's quick intro.
