AMD Close To Ship Phenom X3 Triple Core (video)

Story posted on: March 25, 2008

I'll be attending an AMD webcast this morning giving details of the chipmaker's new chips coming up this week. Make sure to check this site later this week for all the details and the video of the launch. Last week, Digitimes had the following information on upcoming AMD desktop chips from sources at Taiwanese motherboard makers:
"AMD is planning to launch B3 stepping quad-core Phenom 9050 series CPUs including 9850, 9750, 9650, 9550 and 9150 within the next 1-2 weeks, however the top-end 9850 will only reach a core frequency of 2.5GHz, instead of the original goal of 2.6Ghz [....] AMD will later launch triple-core Phenom 8750, 8650 and 8450 CPUs with power consumption of 65W in late April. Prior to that, the company will launch the Athlon 64 X2 5800+ to fill the gap in the mainstream market, noted the sources".

Earlier this month I sat down with Leslie Sobon, AMD director for desktop CPUs, where she confirmed that the Phenom X3 (triple core) will be shipping at the end of this month (March). She also mentioned some additional Phenom CPUs coming up, in addition to the current 9500, 9600 and Black Edition for gamers with overclocking ability and a power efficient desktop chip.
