[VON.x] Much Smaller Show Inspite Impressive Lineup of Speakers/Companies (video)
Story posted on: March 18, 2008

VON is back in San Jose this week. It originally started as a Voice over IP (VOIP) conference -VON stands for Voice on the Net- but now stands for anything on the Net: voice, video, etc. Thus its new name: VON.x.
Inspite the impressive line of keynotes and breakout sessions which brings together some of the best speakers and companies in this industry, I found the show much smaller than last year's. The registration booth is now on the show floor. And the show floor has kind of shrunk, now with a huge Digium/Asterisk booth (the open source PBX company is holding its annual conference for its channel of VARs, systems integrators and service provider in conjunction with VON.x) and the VON theater for sponsor companies presentations.
The low attendance can also be explained by the fact that Voicecon, the other main industry show -more focused on entreprise VOIP- is been held the same week in Orlando, FL. It's quite unfortunate as both shows are good. Hopefully next year organisers of both shows will make it easier for attendees, speakers and exhibitors to attend both.
