[ad:tech] Marketers Shift TV Budgets To Web (video)

Story posted on: April 17, 2008

Is this the beginning of the end for the TV industry? U.S. consumers are watching less TV these days. And my guesstimate is that this is true around the world as well where broadband Internet is ubiquitous.

According to eMarketer CEO and co-founder, Geoff Ramsey, 74% of marketers are going to increase spending over the next few years! This year, marketers will spend $1.1 billion in online video ad i.e. 4.2% of the total online advertising market of $21.9 billion. In 2011, Ramsey expects the online video ad share to reach a bit under 10% of the total internet ad market, at almost $5 billion.

Although this may sound a lot, $1.1 billion is actually only 1.7% of the total $70 billion TV ad spending this year!
"It's still a nascent market", said Ramsey.
