[CTIA Wireless] Mobivox Lets Users Send "Hands-Free" Text Messages Worldwide for 49 Cents (video)

Story posted on: April 01, 2008

We already met with Mobivox at CES last January when they launched their free calling service. The service lets its members call another member, anywhere in the world. You just call one of their 400 local access numbers, tell the name of your correspondent and Mobivox will connect you for free. No call back or new number to set up unlike Rebtel.

Yesterday, at Showstoppers, the Canadian company launched their Send Message service using the same principle as its voice service: you call the local number, choose to send either an email or a text message, tell the contact you want to send it to and then dictate your message. The service will then transcribe it to text and send/email it.

Currently the voice service only supports English and cost 49 cents for each message sent, however, the first five (5) messages sent are free. Now I'm sure, it's just a matter of time before somebody figures out how to send text messages for free!
