[View From The Top] Funambol Brings Blackberry Push Email To All Phones (video)

Story posted on: April 25, 2008

At Sofcon, earlier this week, I talked with Fabrizio Capobianco (pictured), the CEO of mobile open source company Funambol, just after his panel titled "Who Will Provide the Software and Services?" that I found pretty information-free.
In a nutshell, Funambol develops an open source server that mimics Blackberry's push/sync functionalities that interfaces with any email server like Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes, and also developed a related client software that works on most mobile phones, 1.5 billion and counting! Funambol community is also very active and quick porting the client to more and more mobile phones like the Blackberry (why would you want it anyway!), the iPhone or Google's Android platform. The company also has a fairly simple free demo site MyFunambol.com that you could point your cellphone to to try out the push/sync functions. I wish Funambol did a better job at this but they just don't want to compete with their ISP customers.

Capobianco's video interview after the jump. You can also check a more thorough transcription of the interview in French here.
