Logitech Seeks Opportunities in Mac Market, Brings QuickCam Back to the Mac! (video)

Finally, Logitech is taking the Mac market/users seriously!
Similar in shape with the PC-version QuickCam Pro 9000, the Vision Pro however has both autofocus and RightLight technologies directly embedded into the hardware: no software/drivers to install on the Mac, finally a true Plug and Play camera.
Also, unlike the Apple embedded cameras, Logitech's is not limited to the VGA/640x480 resolution and can go do High-Definition, up to 1080p, according to Nich Cuniffe, Marketing Manager of software for the QuickCam product line at Logitech (pictured).
Unfortunately, Apple has not yet "open up" its secret APIs for its video applications like iChat or PhotoBooth, so Logitech and others could work out some integration wizardry with their hardware.

But why would a Mac user need an external Webcam when most Macs comes with the integrated iSight camera anyway?
Well, I can think of 3 reasons. If you're like me with a Macbook attached to an external monitor, the new QuickCam will come in handy as I won't have to open the laptop everytime I want to have a video communication. Also, the Mac mini or Pro don't come with a camera. Finally, if you're application takes HD, that may be the easiest to go aside from plug-in an HD camcorder to the Mac.
Anyway, for $130 (versus $150 for the original iSight), Logitech's QuickCam for Mac (pictured) sounds like a good long term investment! So, welcome back to the Mac world, Logitech!
