[Churchill Club] Serena Software Swaps Corporate Intranet for Facebook. Unveils Facebook Fridays! (video)

Story posted on: June 19, 2008

No point looking for a corporate Intranet at Serena Software. It was replaced by Facebook! And don't look for that feature on Facebook's site either... The Web 2.0 company has no enterprise offerings yet inspite its interest in the Enterprise 2.0 market.
One of yesterday's Churchill Club Enterprise 2.0 event panelist, Serena's SVP of Worldwide Marketing, Rene Bonvanie (pictured), said the idea simply came from the company's top management looking to jump on the Enterprise 2.0 bandwagon, improve efficiency... and save lots of money! Basically, all the money not spent in Microsoft enterprise software was instead used to start "Facebook Fridays" when Serena employees, during 1 hour get themselves familiar with Facebook.
On Facebook, Serena's Privacy policy to its employees is quite simple: be wise! But "it's okay" if you make mistakes. And for those who don't want to use Facebook or are reluctant to post their pictures, nobody's forcing them. Although everybody knows what "peer" pressure means. If you're the only one not in the system, you might not stay in the company for long!
Finally Bonvanie concluded that in an Enterprise 2.0 company, the organisation structure is flatten which threatens the existence for the I.T. department.
"When the world is flat, I.T. is in trouble", concluded Bonvanie.
