Where did all the iPhone 3G Palo Alto fans/customers go? I remember last year at the same spot, people were even camping out inspite the cooler nights and then Steve Jobs himself showed up!
This picture has been taken this afternoon at 5:40 PM. Actually, the store looked sadly empty. And the "global" iPhone 3G launch is just in 2 days, i.e. Friday morning at 8AM. OK. It's mid-week, it's hot and just a few days after 4th of July.
But still, the lower price tag for the phone (but with a higher AT&T monthly rate) and the new in-store activation process for the 3G iPhone that will take much longer than just paying cash for the phone (like the young lady in the video below last year) and go... should have been some good incentives for the folks in the bleeding edge of technology.
My take is that people simply have learn from the short past history i.e. last year!, and know that there'll be plenty of new iPhones and places where to get them (Apple and AT&T stores). Besides, it's so hot now in Silicon Valley, so why bother!
But will check back tomorrow, both at the Palo Alto, Los Gatos and Cupertino Apple stores just in case some campers show up :)
