IDF Q&A: Intel Killed Viiv With Core Branding. Targets ARM with Atom Chip and vPro for The Masses (video)
Story posted on: August 19, 2008

After their keynotes at IDF, both Pat Gelsinger (Intel's desktop and server boss) and David Perlmutter (the mobile boss), stayed for a short media Q&A session (pictured).
Three main items were covered:
1- How Intel "dealt" with the Viiv fiasco and pulled the brand that was meant to represent Intel's consumer offering and "evolved" to become the Core brand. Actually, Intel's "Digital Home" division is now just comprised of the newly formed TV-centric business. All the desktop and server activities are now under Gelsinger's uber-umbrella;
2- Regarding the new Atom processor, Intel is positioning it squarely at ARM's turf;
3- Finally, Intel plans to take the vPro enterprise management features mainstream (SMB and consumer).
