[IDF 08] Intel Looks at the Next 40 Years of Technology. Beyond CMOS, Photonics...

Story posted on: August 21, 2008

Intel is maybe celebrating its 40 year's birthday but during his IDF keynote, Intel CTO Justin Rattner (pictured) preferred to take us back to the future, looking at some of the technology advancements that we could see in the next 40 years.

Making the unthinkable possible was sort of the motto for this mission that went through some very incredible demos.
- Technologies that'll take Intel beyond CMOS like magnetic spin, carbon nanotubes...;

- Silicon Photonics;

- Wireless communications with a prediction that in 10 years from now there will be 10,000 radios per person!

- A stunning live wireless power transmission demo, transmitting 60 watts with 75% efficiency!

- 2 robotics demo that were showcased at the last Intel's Research Day

- A dive in new interfaces with a demo of Emotiv brain reader to be available at the end of the year;

- And last but not least, a look at programmable matter that could become reality in less than 10 years. Unbelievable!

Here are the respective videos of the technologies demonstrated during Rattner's keynote (more to come):
