Internet Traffic Up At Travel Sites

Story posted on: August 16, 2008

Americans may be taking fewer summer vacations this year, but you would never know it from their Internet activity.

Travel sites that focus on ground travel and cruises saw traffic jump 10% to 12.7 million visitors in July and were the top gaining category for the period, according to comScore Media Metrix. Travel-information sites grew their audience 7% to 47.6 million visitors.

Retail, or consumer goods, sites also had a strong July. Traffic rose 8% to 22.5 million visitors with Staples.com up 22% and Office Depot up 12% and DisneyShopping.com up 32%, comScore said Friday.
