Server Market Survives Economic Slowdown

The economic slowdown hasn't yet scuttled the server market, according the Gartner researchers.
The market-monitoring firm said Thursday that global server shipments rose 12.2% in the second quarter and revenue climbed 5.7% to $13.8 billion.
Companies continue to build out data centers for Web applications and replace low-end servers running Intel-compatible, or x86, chips with newer models. Business in emerging markets also continues to be solid.
IBM maintained its market share lead over Hewlett-Packard, Gartner said.
