During the "head to head" session (pictured), AllThingsD.com executive editors, Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg responded to VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi question on why both Dow Jones (the publisher of the Wall Street Journal and a subsidiary of News Corp) media superstars chose to attend the DEMOfall instead of TechCrunch50. A question that was enough to start Swisher's anti-Michael Arrington rant.
"Getting lectured on journalism ethics by Michael Arrington [TechCrunch blog and conference founder] is like getting parenting tips from Britney Spears", poked Swisher.

Swisher then calmed down a bit and felt sorry for the start-ups and entrepreneurs (but not for the VCs!) that had to choose between either tech conferences:

"I think it was obnoxious marketing 101 kind of thing. And they are both doing great. This [DEMOfall] is full, TechCrunch is full and I don't think it serves the people that are interested in technology as well as it should. And it's just not necessary and it keeps going... Yesterday there was a post saying you should calm down on TechCrunch and proceeded to insult Chris [Shipley] some more", added co-executive editor of AllThingsD.com, blogger for Boomtown and co-executive producer of conference D: All Things Digital, Kara Swisher.
Mossberg had a much different perspective: he just didn't know about TechCrunch50... just as simple as that!
"I think this [DEMO] is a very valuable conference for somebody who is in my job of reviewing tech products and have been coming here since 1991-92... And it never occurred to me not to come here this year. I've nothing necessarily against the other conference [TechCrunch50]. I'm just not familiar with it... I know that this [DEMO] is always worth making the trip cross the country and so far it looks like its worth it again", said Walt Mossberg, who's also the Wall Street Journal personal technology columnist.
Here's the video of the entire anti-TechCrunch50 rant!
